BREEAM is the world’s leading sustainability assessment method for masterplanning projects, infrastructure and buildings. It addresses a number of lifecycle stages such as New Construction, Refurbishment and In-Use.
BREEAM stands for Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method and was developed and introduced by the Building Research Establishment (BRE), a British research institute. A BREEAM-NL New Construction and Refurbishment Certificate can be obtained at the following life cycle stages:
- Design Stage (DS) – leading to an Interim BREEAM certified rating
- Post-Construction Stage (PCS) – leading to a Final BREEAM certified rating
The BREEAM rating is based on a number of key areas: management (12%), health & wellbeing (15%), energy (19%), transport (8%), water (6%), materials (12,5%), waste (7,5%), ecology (10%), pollution (10%).
